Ford split their business into 3 divisions a while back. Commercial-Consumer- and EV's. Those aren't the "official" names of their divisions but that's basically what each division focuses on.
For the EV divsion, start up cost are massive and lithium prices have skyrocketed. Add to this supply chain shortages caused by COVID and other factors and you still have most EV's selling at a loss.
I know there is hot debate on both sides about whether EV's are the way to go or not but for me, it will come down to money as always. If they can make an EV that is cheaper for the consumer and more profitable for the manufacturer then an internal combustion engine I think they have a good chance of taking off.
If they can't, this experiement will be a massive failure.
